Here are some of the most frequently asked questions
Can my Apple/Mac get an infection?
Yes. Although many believe that their Apple/Mac can't, this is now untrue. Macs can get infected just like a PC. Click the link below for a good article from Norton.
Do you stock computer parts?
With all of the places on the internet selling parts it is not practical for Mike's to stock parts. He will assist you in locating the correct part(s) for your desktop or laptop for free. Mike's PC Service is setup to install customer provided parts at a very reasonable price which is something the "other guys" are not willing to do because they want you to buy their parts, at their prices. MPCS customers save money by allowing Mike to help them order the correct part(s) compared to taking their computers to big box stores & competitors.
How long will it take to remove a virus or infection from my computer?
That depends on the severity of the infection. If you have had a virus or other infection for a while then it will take longer to remove it completely from your system. Mike goes through the registry, the Windows files and other places in your computer so that all of the infection(s) are removed. He will then test and re-check your computer to ensure that everything is back to normal. Typical turnaround time is one business day.
If I want a new Operating System installed will it work with my computer?
That depends on your system. For Windows 7 you need at least the following;
1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor / 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
For Windows 10 you will need;
Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC
RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
Hard disk space: 16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS
Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
Many older computers currently running Windows XP or XP Pro will not run newer operating systems due to limited speed processors, limited motherboards and limitations on the amount of RAM that is required. There are a few exceptions but they are few and far between.
Do you repair/replace broken screen (glass or synthetic) on tablets, phone or pads?
No, Mike's does not repair or replace screens on these devices. There are many places to take these devices to that specialize in this service.
My computer hangs up, freezes or crashes, is this a virus?
Might be, but probably not. Typically when these happen it is due to internal problems such as driver errors, registry faults/errors or hardware issues. I suggest you bring your computer by and allow me to diagnose what the problem actually is.
I have a small business and would really love to have a website. How much does this cost in total?
There are three fees that have to be paid, the first one is to pay for your domain name and the second one is to pay for your hosting plan. Your domain name can be pretty much whatever you want it to be. The third fee is for the setup & design fee by Mike. Your domain name can be paid annually or paid in advance for multiple years. This fee is typically not expensive. Your domain name is paid the same way and it also isn't very expensive. Our customers are assisted every step of the way to ensure it all works out smoothly and anything the customer doesen't understand we explain in layman's terms rather than in overly technical lingo. If you need more information please visit our Business Websites page or feel free to call. All websites are custom built using website builder packages provided by GoDaddy, Wix or Web. Prices are determined when selecting the package which best suits the business owner.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Mike's PC Service accepts cash and local personal & business checks only. All invoices for services for a business are provided as "payment on receipt" only. At this time MPCS does not accept credit/debit cards but we are working on a solution to be able to accept these soon.
Why don't you have a commercial store?
Price thats why! The majority of commercial store fronts are expensive and overhead would have to be incorporated into the prices Mike's charges. By working from home Mike's can offer professional grade technology services to customers at a MUCH lower rate. This means YOU the customer pay less for a quality service.
Do you sell computers?
No. We do not sell computers or associated peripherals or hardware. On occasions we will sell on consignment for a customer a desktop or laptop, there will be a link on the front page when we have items for sale.
Is Windows 7 safe now that Windows 10 is available?
Of course it is! No doubt. Just because there is a newer Windows operating system on the market does not mean that Windows 7 Home, Premium or Pro is not safe. There are folks who will tell you that because they have the newer OS and thats only their opinion or, what they have read somewhere on the internet. With that said, Windows 10 has a learning curve as to its new layout and how to get to particular sections like the control panel, settings and so on. Many customers who use Mike's do not want to change to Windows 10 because of this and its because they are accustomed to 7. And its OK, Windows 7 is safe and in fact many local banks and businesses use Windows 7 currently! I have seen this go both ways, some businesses went back to 7 after switching to 10 and some went right away to 10 after using 7 and are happy with 10. The same does not apply to home users in our experience. Many have stayed with Windows 7 after trying Windows 10. With all of that said, Windows 10 is a safe and more importantly stable operating system. I run Windows 10 Pro on one of my computers and have had no problems with it. It seems to be a decent operating system.
